Name: Remy LeBeau
Code Name: Gambit
Age: 22
Affiliation:Unaffiliated.
Mutant Characteristics:
Mutation:
-Gambit can charge inanimate objects, powering them with kinetic energy. This causes them to glow a luminescent color that ranges from pink, to purple, to red, depending on the object and amount of energy. The object will explode with kinetic force once it strikes something. The larger the object, the longer Remy must hold on to it to charge it, but he is capable of exploding an entire room if he expends enough time and energy. It is much more useful and combat efficient for him to charge smaller objects though, which take almost no time. As such, he has found a cheap source of ammo in playing cards, which he has learned to throw with pinpoint accuracy.
-Gambit has the ability to charm people through mild hypnosis. Originally thought to be a psychic power, in fact he is actually mildly charging pathways in the subjects brain that would cause such a reaction. He does not seem to be able to affect any other pathways other than the ones that have this charming effect. It is less effective when someone knows they are the subject of it, but it is so subtle and known by so few that it tends to be fairly effective. He must be in conversation distance to use this power.
-Gambit could potentially have much stronger kinetic energy powers that he had in his youth, but he was dangerous and uncontrollable when using them. A series of events has cut him off from this amount of control.
Manifestations: When charging an object, gambit's eyes, both the whites and pupils, will glow the same color as the object he is charging. Sometimes, they leave an upward trail of disappearing energy at the corner of his eyes.
Class: With all of his kinetic powers active he'd be a class 4 mutant, but because he has been caught off from the majority of them he is considered class 3 despite reading as class 4 to someone who can detect powers. (NO CLASS 5s! Only Apocalypse!)
The Character
Personality: Remy is very much a free spirited soul who has little trust in his fellow man. He has often seen that human nature is a nasty thing, and it has impacted his life greatly. Despite wanting to believe the world is a good place, too many things have shown him that it can't possibly be. Being a mutant didn't help much with that. He enjoys women, narrow escapes, a cleverness. He dislikes rigidity and getting caught. He is both mysterious and charismatic, a flirt and a thief, a hero and a villain.
Physical Description: 6'2" and 180lbs with red eyes that glow when his power is activated. He has brown hair, a sort of variation of a mushroom cut. He is extremely fit, lean and muscular, and has very angular good looks.
History: At birth, Remy was abandoned by his French-Canadian parents in Louisiana because of his glowing red eyes. They called him "the white devil" because of it. He was taken in by a guild of street thieves in New Orleans. Just before turning 10, he was taken in by Jean-Luc LeBeau, leader of the thieves guild, after attempting to pick his pocket.
Remy was taken off the streets, and spent his teen years as a thief and gambler. During the stryker incident, he was one of the mutants affected by the dark cerebro, and accidentally destroyed the table he was playing Texas hold 'em on when the headache hit (this was something taken out of the X2 script, I figured it'd be cool to include). During this event, he also lost the ability to exercise full control over kinetic energy, which turned out to be a blessing since he was now able to control his power much more.
Despite his abilities, Remy never really fell in too much with mutant-kind. His fellow thieves guild-mates and family didn't really question his powers like most humans would, they saw them as a benefit.
At age 18 he was to marry Belladonna Bourdreaux as sign of good faith to the assassin's guild. Belladonna's brother julien did not want the marriage to happen, so dueled Remy. In the course of the duel ,Remy was forced to kill Julien in self-defense. As a result, the assassin's guild demanded he leave New Orleans.
Remy left New Orleans, traveling from city to city with his powers he now had greater control over. He is just now learning about mutant politics and how it effects him, though he has chosen not to take a side yet because he is a bit too selfish at this point to devote loyalty to either cause. He's out for himself at the moment.
When Hurricane Katrina hit, Remy returned to his home city in an effort to help any members of his family that might need it. He was met with attacks from the assassin's guild, but he was able to bargain for a temporary truce with them in exchange for his help in recovering some of their lost members. Remy is allowed in New Orleans once again, but it is quite possible the assassin's guild might rescind on their offer.
In the events of Alcatraz, Remy was aside all the action, feeling the effects in other places. He was briefly under arrest after stealing a piece of art from a senator's home, but before he could be moved to the prison-on-wheels, magneto had attacked it already and removed Juggernaut, Mystique, and the others from it. Remy busted out of his regular cell by convincing a female guard to open it up with his hypnotic power. Before she regained her sense of rationality, Remy had managed to blow up a section of the fence in the yard and obtain some wheels. He managed to escape, and is still technically a fugitive, though no one seems to have come after him. It only takes a little bit of time before fate comes knocking on one's door though. Remy found himself in New York, where he was petitioned by the X-men for membership. He declined, but he did actually ponder the offer. He has since kept the information about the institute on his person for sometime in case a turn of events ever came about where it was beneficial for him to join. If he ever needed a place to hide, the x-mansion certainly seemed damn well guarded.
The brotherhood petitioned him as well, but their reaction when he declined made him a bit put off by them. The x-men were much More understanding, and he didn't have to blow something up to escape them when he had said no. The brotherhood was a different story. He didn't think they'd take kindly to someone that watches his own back more than his boss's. Good thing he didn't join them, because most of them got blinked into inexistence by the Phoenix after all.
Now, Remy is taking it easy, still taking up residence in the area around Westchester, where he has easy access to Manhattan and a sea of 8 million potential marks to steal from.
While in the thieves guild, Remy learned the French fighting style of Savote, and the intricacies of bo-staff fighting.
(I mixed comic book canon with what makes sense for the movie-verse. Hope it worked out well.)

Remy's back was scrunched up against the brick wall of the bowling alley, the shadow of the nearby liquor store keeping him obfuscated from sight. He had been watching his target for a long time now, and what better place than here to grab him. The mark must have been on a date, judging by the amount of laughing and flirting he was doing with his female companion. Remy smiled to himself... he wondered if he should charm the girl away after he took the man's wallet.
No, he thought to himself, can't take a man's dignity and his wallet. That's just not right. If you could say Gambit lived by any code of ethics, that was about as close to any moral convictions you'd find inside that head of his. The world was too mean a place to be looking out for anyone other than himself, but if you took more than you deserved then karma might bite you on the ass.
The mark was near the alley now, about to walk passed. Remy suddenly pivoted to face him, bumping into him, his brown trench coat whipping into the man's side.
"Oh, I'm sorry dere monsieur, I did not mean to st'rtle you," Remy apologized ever so eloquently.
The man dusted himself, "Yeah, yeah," he replied gruffly, walking around gambit and grabbing his date's hand.
Remy felt the leather wallet in between his fore and middle finger. Nice grab, it was fat. Maybe he wasn't good enough though, as the man turned around quickly a moment after.
"Hey, you took my wallet!" the man turned and pumped his fist.
Remy did not turn around quite yet. He slipped his fingers into the pocket of the wallet and removed all the cash. It was a few bills, maybe 7 or so. He hoped they were at least 20's.
"Fine, den hav' it back den, Monsieur," Remy's eyes glowed red as he tossed the empty wallet, now charged with a small burst of energy at the man's feet. When it landed on the side walk and exploded in a mild flash, the man and woman both covered their eyes. When they looked again, Remy was gone.
