The Basics
Name: Robert Louis Drake
Code Name: Iceman
Age: 18
Affiliation: X-Men
Mutant Characteristics:
Mutation:
Thermokinesis & Organic Ice Form: The Iceman is a mutant with the superhuman ability to lower his external and internal body temperature, projecting intense coldness from his body. Like any normal human being's, the nerve centers for regulating the Iceman's body temperature are found in the part of the brain called the hypothalamus. However, the Iceman can mentally override his hypothalamus to allow his body temperature to be lowered by an unknown internal mechanism. This ability converts the latent thermal energies in and around his body into an unknown form of energy that is efficiently dissipated. A related mutation has rendered his body tissues unaffected by sub-zero temperatures. The Iceman can consciously, immediately lower his body temperature from its normal 98.6 Fahrenheit to that of -105.7 F within the span of a few tenths of a second. As his body temperature falls, the surrounding moisture in the air that is in contact with him is similarly lowered. Just as condensed moisture forms frost, this moisture forms an icy covering which encompasses his entire body.
In addition, Iceman has recently developed the ability to actually become organic ice. Iceman is actually translucent in his ice form and his facial features are obscured. It is theorized that Iceman is virtually indestructible in this form for he should be able to reform his shatterd body, and even if the rest of his body is completely destroyed, his head can form a new body from frozen liquids. This however is well beyond Iceman’s current abilities.
Cryokinesis: The Iceman can use his mutant ability to freeze any local air moisture into super-hard ice. This ice is particularly hard and has been known to withstand solid hits without breaking. This ice can be formed into any object of his choosing: the only limitations are his own imagination, his skill as a sculptor, the amount of available moisture, and the ambient air temperature which determines how long his ice sculpture will stay icy. He does not have to hold the ice physically with his hands in order to shape it. Apparently he can simply direct the waves of coldness he projects in certain ways so as to create ice in the shape he desires.
Manifestations: Iceman can manifest at will his Organic Ice-Form. In thie form, his entire body becomes ice. As his body temperature falls, the surrounding moisture in the air that is in contact with him is similarly lowered. Just as condensed moisture forms frost, this moisture forms an icy covering which encompasses his clothing..

The Character[/u]
Personality: Robert Drake is anything but a normal teenager. Besides being a mutant, his easy going attitude contrasts heavily with the noble soul that lies beneath his relaxed attitude. His beliefs and ideals are unusually rooted in the young man, having being a student under Mutant activists like Jean Gray, Professor Charles Xavier and Ororo Munroe. Members of Xavier’s School for the Gifted are his family, respecting most if not all of the students and staff members in it and always finding a way to make them feel welcomed and at home. His amicable nature has gained him respect and care in return. He is fiercely protective of his close friends and usually attempts to leave a good vibe on everyone with each interaction. As a member of the X-Men, his eager attitude does not outweigh a sense of responsibility uncharacteristic of such a young man. He is a good listener, and a lot of students would come to him if there was a problem.
His main character flaw is his constant need to find approval from others. A hidden insecurity lies within Bobby Drake that requires him to strive harder and harder in order to make himself useful and loved. Although a usual trait in most teenagers, in Bobby it has been the cause for problems. He sometimes restraints himself too much, hoping to keep the boat from rocking, while in other occasions this overachieving nature, his need to be helpful and liked, has made girls fall for him with a rather uncomfortable frequency.
He likes most sports, particularly ones that involve snow or ice in some way. Robert is known for his witty and clever comments in key moments, usually with the purpose of making someone feel better, or breaking the tension. He doesn’t particularly like martial arts, but he has learnt enough to hold his own. He dislikes close-minded people, especially the Brotherhood and their mandate of mutant supremacy.
Physical Description: Robert’s body is perfectly proportioned, well defined and slightly more muscular than a man his age. His athletic body measures 5’11” and weighs 165 pounds. Highly noticeable are his prominent cheek bones and bright light brown eyes, a feature most believe is his best, for having a sincere quality to them. His face could be described as perpetually having a puerile smile. Along with slightly curly, brown hair, usually combed back, he has a very handsome face, one the girls would be willing to take a second look at when noticing him for the first time. Bobby’s attire and demeanor are very casual if not informal, a generic t-shirt sometimes below an unbuttoned shirt and a pair of jeans cover his general needs. Bobby tends to shun designer clothing, preferring more practical clothes that can be replaced easily and cheaply. Bobby’s face usually appears serious and focused, but his disarming smile often catches people off balance.
Despite his normal appearance, Bobby can use his powers to turn him into a walking ice sculpture. When in ice-form, his clothing do not transform into organic ice like his body, but instead freeze and acquire a bluish hue from the water molecules freezing on their surface. Incredibly resilient and strong, his appearance is enough to disconcert most people, especially when you notice his eyes and the inside of his mouth have disappeared, replaced by pure blindingly white ice. This form is strong but can be melted by fire, if there is prolonged exposure and the fire is powerful enough to melt the ice faster than Bobby can replenish it.
History: Bobby was born into a typical middle-class family in Boston, America. His parents are William and Madeline Drake. His childhood was normal, until he reached thirteen. Bobby kept finding that he would wake up and the bed would be frozen to his skin, or that he would be drinking a glass of water that would abruptly turn to ice. He was very careful, and kept his secret from everyone, including his family. He slowly gained a measure of control over his powers,
When he was fourteen he was accepted into the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. His parents believed that it was an exclusive boarding school for intelligent teenagers, and were none the wiser. His life at the School was eventful and entertaining as Bobby started to enjoy the control he was having on his powers, while befriending most of the kids at school, particularly a young mutant his age named John Allerdyce. Bobby had been there for almost 5 years when two new arrivals came to the Mansion. Wolverine, and Rogue.
He quickly developed a close relationship with Rogue and soon afterwards he started to seriously date Rogue, despite the issues with her abilities. An incident where he, Pyro and Rogue were accosted by two young men, which resulted in Pyro setting tone for them on fire and Bobby hastily extinguishing it, started to make Bobby more wary of his friend.
His life at the Mansion was shattered when, whilst talking to Wolverine, the Mansion was attacked by troops under the command of one Colonel William Stryker. Bobby, Wolverine, Rogue and Pyro flee the Mansion together, ending up at Bobby’s house in Boston, where he confesses his mutant nature to his horrified parents.
His younger brother, hating his ‘freak’ brother, turned them in to the cops. Pyro, as armed police was holding up the four, used his powers to attack the policeman and their patrol cars. It was only through Rogue’s absorption of his abilities that any of the officers survived.
They were luckily saved by the X-Jet, being piloted by Storm, Jean and Nightcrawler. Unfortunately two air force jets intercepted them, and they managed to hit the X-Jet, and the X-men and the students were narrowly saved by the intervention of Magneto.
The two sides reluctantly teamed up to stop Stryker from completing his plans and rescue the Professor. The end result of the drams inside the dam complex was the defection of Pyro to the Brotherhood, and the Jean’s self-sacrifice in order to save the people onboard the X-Jet.
Soon afterwards Bobby is made a full-fledged member of the X-men. He and Rogue have some relationship issues, particularly with Rogue’s inability to be touched by anyone without stealing their powers and vitality.
Later, at a protest against the cure, Bobby squares off with Pyro, and defends Rogue when Pyro starts insulting her. He also starts to have a very close relationship with Kitty Pryde, a fellow mutant. This budding relationship has caused tension between Robert and Marie. Bobby’s friendship with Katherine had not gone unnoticed for Rogue, who was also dealing with making a life altering decision.
He fought with the other X-men to stop Magneto’s army on Alcatraz, and fought and subsequently defeated Pyro. After their victory, Robert returned to the Xavier Mansion with his torn emotions still tugging his conscience, only to be received by a now depowered Rogue. Bobby and Rogue have now continued their relationship.
Sample: Bobby Drake stood his ground, like a giant boulder amidst a sea of estrogen. His female counterparts were distracting, keeping him from really devoting himself to the instructions given by both instructors. He was not distraught by their curves, luscious curls of hair or delightful aroma. No. It was their mere presence that perturbed him. They reminded him of Rogue; it made him notice her already noticeable absence. He could feel the empty space at his left side, screaming at him, demanding him to pay an unnamed price for his involvement in Marie’s decision, to suppress her mutation, to change her life and to leave the X-Team. Then, there was Pryde, standing stoically to his right. An all-different matter altogether. Bobby did not think of her however, of them. Bobby was content, relieved with having her still on the team, to have his best friend believe and compromise as much as he did for a common cause.
Bobby squint his eyes as a light gust of wind met his face. The wasteland that once was New York City was a familiar sight. It was one of the most dramatic settings the Danger Room had to offer, one that Bobby never took for granted. It was a very tangible vision of what could be their future if the tense political situation, social uprising and intolerance is mishandled correctly. That is why Bobby likes this scenario so much. It had a profound meaning, a double intent. To train, yes, but to warn, to make the students aware of how much depended on them.
The group stood at the feet of a wrecked structure, probably a building. The small cement wall that remained upright, dusty and gray, seemed like enough to shield them from the Sentinel’s view for now. Bobby heard Rahne’s voice. He nodded slightly at her, and to the rest of the group feeling more responsible for their success than in previous occasions. Katherine and he had already experienced a couple of official missions, and it made him that much confident… and that much pressured. Bobby pondered a plan, hasted and probably incomplete, but he knew the others would complement it. Turning around to face Kitty, but speaking to the group, Bobby decided to spell out his plan, knowing Kitty would catch any flaws in it.
“I think our best bet is to lay low, away from the Sentinel’s sensors until our most nimble and agile members find the shelter. Then half of us can meet up there and make a stand, while the rest can pull the sentinels away from the shelter, engaging them if necessary. What do you think?” Said Bobby quickly. He then peered around the corner, his back flat against the cement wall.
